We have a good amount of Blu-Rays coming out today, some good, some not so good. Now, while you can probably guess which one’s which – we should get deeper and figure out which choice, if any, are right for you. The releases today are Bad Moms, Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, Nine Lives, and Star Trek: Beyond. So let’s get into it.
Bad Moms tells the story of a few young mothers that are sick and tired of hearing the same rules that dictate how to be a “good mother”, so they decide to be bad mothers instead. The idea itself isn’t a terrible one, but to extend the humor and idea, the writers of this film decide to make these women…just…bad people instead. They do bad things that have nothing to do with parenthood. Overall, I didn’t really find the humor all that strong. It was an okay movie, but I’m probably never going to watch it again.
BATMAN: RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS
If you’ve ever seen the 196o’s Batman TV series, you’ll know what I’m talking about when I say it was a highly beloved series. It was, in my opinion, so atrociously bad that it was pure gold. I can’t get enough of this series, and they have done it again for this movie. It might not always work, but when it does, it does so better than any of the older stuff ever did, since they’ve taken the fact that they are silly and have gone ten-fold with it. I thought this movie was a little long, but I think that’s okay.
Nine Lives. Why. Just, why? Kevin Spacey plays a business mogul who turns into a cat in order to learn the valuable lesson of what family means. It’s a family film, which is fine, but there was no reason for the movie to even exist, nor did anyone ever really ask for it. I gave the score what I gave it based off of the fact that if a family watched it, they’d do so just fine…but I don’t see anyone watching it ever again, either.
STAR TREK: BEYOND
Unfortunately, I’ve seen this movie twice and neither time did I ever think to actually review it, and that’s too bad. I’ve reviewed every other movie in the series. One day, I’ll get around to it, I promise. But know this…I liked it. I wouldn’t say it was as good as the first two, but it’s still a legitimately good movie that I had a lot of fun with, which wasn’t what I expected. This movie, as well as X-Men Apocalypse, were two movies with trailers that never impressed me, but the movies did. So check this one out!
RATING: 8.0/10 (not final)
