Franchise Feature – Star Wars (1977-2017)

The following is a total and concise breakdown of the Star Wars franchise. I will tell you not only the best film overall, but where each and every film drew their strengths from. Which film won in each category and so forth.

Best Film Overall:

The Empire Strikes Back (100%)

I’m starting off with the best overall film for one reason – it scored 100%, which means it was the best in each and every category. The awards for the best in each category will simply be 2nd best overall, starting with best film overall, which is Rogue One (99%)This film nearly made it to the top spot, if it weren’t for The Empire Strikes Back. Rogue One had nearly everything done perfectly – it was just a little too convoluted, as it took place one way too many settings, which made it begin to feel slightly convoluted. Too bad, but I can’t say I’m disappointed in the real winner!

Best in the People Category:

Three-way tie between: Rogue One, The Force Awakens, and The Last Jedi

Each film listed above won perfect scores for every subcategory in the People Category, which included Acting, Characters, Casting, Importance, and Chemistry. These were all second, of course, to The Empire Strikes Back, which also got perfect scores.

Best in the Writing Category:

Three-way tie between: A New Hope, Revenge of the Sith, and Rogue One

The three films listed above won nearly-perfect points in the writing category. This category contains Dialogue, Balanced, Story Depth, Originality, and Interesting. From what I have listed, each film lacked in a perfect balance, but did everything else right. These were all second, of course, to The Empire Strikes Back, which did in fact receive perfect points in the Writing Category.

Best in the BTS Category:

Three-way tie between: Rogue One, The Force Awakens, and The Last Jedi

The three films listed above all won perfect points in the Behind-the-Scenes department, which went through the following subcategories: Visuals, Directing, Editing, Advertising, and Music/Sound. The Empire Strikes Back, as you could probably guess, also got perfect points in this category.

Best in the Narrative Arc Category:

Everything but Revenge of the Sith and The Last Jedi got perfect points in the Narrative arc category, which goes over the Introduction, Inciting Incident, Obstacles, Climax, and Falling Action.

Best in the Entertainment Category:

Four-way tie between:
The Force Awakens, A New Hope, Rogue One, and Revenge of the Sith

The following films listed above received perfect scores, along with The Empire Strikes Back, in the Entertainment category, which goes over Rewatchability, Fun Experience, Impulse to Buy, Impulse to Talk about, and if it Sucks an audience in. Let’s just say most of these movies are supremely entertaining to watch.

Best in the Specialty Category:

Return of the Jedi

Apart from The Empire Strikes Back have a perfect score in the specialty category, so did Return of the Jedi, which in the end, really just means these are the movies out of the entire series that exceeded my expectations.
